30.04.2021 – 1 online platform, 5 themed areas and around 30 Excellence Scholars: this year’s Meet the Talent event mostly took place online due to the ongoing exceptional situation.
“I can’t say it often enough: your commitment to young, talented individuals at ETH is tremendously valuable – both for the students and for society as a whole.” Rector Sarah M. Springman, who is patron of the programme, opened the event live from the main auditorium at ETH Zurich. She is in her final year in office, and her speech was primarily about expressing gratitude. She also touched on how ETH Zurich has handled the various challenges in the past few months and how the coronavirus pandemic prompted the teaching profession to embrace digitalisation.
Three Excellence Scholars – Janine Wetter, Agon Besimi and Xenia Voellmy – presented their projects from the auditorium, after which they answered questions from the Rector. The event ended with a video of two Excellence Scholars, Noa Bernasconi and Diego Bernasconi, who are both studying materials science and have become good friends in the process.
Following the plenary session, visitors were able to view five themed areas in which around 30 Excellence Scholars briefly presented their projects. From robotic arms to rockets, nanomaterials to health sciences, and artificial intelligence to machine learning, the selection was rich and varied – making it a worthwhile experience for the visitors.
