«I felt very honoured and grateful upon receiving the Excellence Scholarship, as studying at ETH would not have been an option for me had I not been chosen for it. An unexpected perk of for this award is definitely the community and support structure that the recipients have access to. I can definitely say that the classes of the ETH Master of Comparative and International Studies (MACIS) are rigorous, thought-provoking and incredibly challenging.»
According to Katherine, growing up in the Philippines — a country rife with graft, corruption and political conflict — has piqued her interest in political sciences early on. She initially heard about MACIS from a former colleague at Jacobs University who applied a year prior to her entry. As she looked more closely into the program, Prof. Lars-Erik Cederman and Prof. Andreas Wenger’s research areas, respectively, in addition to the small class sizes, really convinced her that this was the right choice. If everything falls into place, she hopes to pursue a PhD in Security Studies.
